Details
This program is specifically designed for lovers of nature and culture, and we aim to make this guided tour into something unique and intimate. Deeply immersed in the ebb-and-flow of the Andes, in which the local people share their knowledge and demonstrate their traditional customs, these six-days are something very special.
We recommend this six-day immersion for travelling as a couple, family and/or groups of friends. At Inkati Peru Travel we are here to inspire you to take the next step, and as local people ourselves, we work to support families and fair-trade at every step.
Day by Day
This first day you will be picked up by an Inkati representative and tour guide, who will accompany you to your hotel and make sure you are settled in and comfortable. As we are at 11,000 feet, this first day is taken slowly and considered a day of acclimatisation. You will have a day of rest and relaxation, and can take advantage of the afternoon to explore a little on your own.
Today we have the day to rediscover history and learn about local Peruvian culture. We will start by visiting the local market, where your expert guide will tell you about everything that is produced in this region, introducing you to aromas and flavours which never cease to amaze. Your senses will be fully engaged! Next, we will travel to the exterior of the city, to contemplate the prehistoric Incan architecture, with giant constructions that surprise locals, foreigners and archaeologists alike. Saqsayhuaman was originally a temple, and today is considered a fortress; a relic of a mysterious past.
After seeing history come alive through the ruins, we head down towards the Temple of the Sun (Q’oricancha). In Incan times this place was decorated with gold plates, and it is still possible to see the mindblowing precision which went into their flawless architecture. We end this circuit visiting the cathedral of Cusco, where art and history merge in one place.
Today we start the day by leaving the city of Cusco to go to the town of Chinchero; here we will visit the archaeological park which helps us to understand the process of expansion of the Incan culture, which was also a conquistador culture which took over from a previously established group called the Killke’s. We will visit a local family who will teach us about the weavings they have hand-made for generations, spun with local alpaca yarn and dyed with natural elements such as flowers and special leaves. The artisan fabrics which are then turned into bags, cushions and other useful items, contain many meanings, and are often emblematic of the natural world.
Continuing onwards, we head towards the salt mines of Maras, where salt has been naturally extracted from the mountains for a long time and serves as many families, also providing healthy salt to all over the world. During the journey, you will be able to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Andes, decorated with glacial mountains, beautiful flora, and catch a glimpse of Sacred Valley of the Incas! From there, your expert guide will bring you to the salt pools, from which the famous pink Maras salt is extracted by hand.
Then we arrive at the agricultural experimental centre of Moray; incredible agricultural terraces built in a circular shape, originally to discern which crops grow best at which altitude. After a short walk we will go to a restaurant for a delicious, traditional lunch.
For the last portion of the day, we will drive through the magical Sacred Valley of the Incas to visit Ollantaytambo, where we will take the train that will take us to the town of Aguas Calientes (Machupicchu Pueblo)
The great day has arrived! Early today we will leave for the sacred city of Machu Picchu. Here, your guide will delight you with the history that this Inca city contains; mysterious, rich and beautiful. After walking the entire citadel for three-hours, and exploring every nook-and-cranny, we will leave the sanctuary and return to Aguas Calientes to savour a delicious lunch at a luxury restaurant. Continuing onwards, we will take the train back to the city of Cusco.
The Rainbow Mountain of colours, with its special striped characteristics, is just one example of how incredibly beautiful our planet is. This day we start early, to take advantage of the morning hours. On the way, we travel through picturesque villages, full of life and colour, then in Palccoyo we get off our vehicle to stretch our legs and enjoy the scenery. A flat road will take us to see the majesty of the highest mountain in Cusco, Ausangate. Considered a protective and ancient deity by the locals, Apu Ausangate is closely connected to the famous Rainbow-colored mountains, all of which are decorated with llamas and alpacas roaming the wild, rugged ranges.
Finally, we reach the end of these intense days full of new experiences, ancient customs and joy. We transfer you from the hotel to the airport, where our representative will escort you to take your return flight.

Sustainable Travel
Low-impact Tours
On this program we strive to preserve and protect delicate routes and natural habitats in order to not enhance mass-tourism in remote areas and minimise the effects of our presence in such areas. We therefore choose routes for the program that are specific for Tourism and trekking and avoid exploring remote places.
Cultural Awareness
It generally works best when there is smaller scale, slower growth, and greater involvement by our local communities in all steps of the tourism development process. We work mainly with small business and communities ensuring that most of the profit benefits actual people, and not just big organizations.
